P H I L O S O P H Y
Join us on a journey where objects becomes more than just a furniture piece; it becomes a vessel for shared experiences, a catalyst for imagination, and a reflection of the stories we carry. We invite you to curate your life with objects that ignite conversation, evoke emotions, and embody the power of storytelling. Each piece is designed to hold meaning beyond its function, connecting us to the people, memories, traditions, and narratives that continue to shape how we experience the world around us. Through design, we reinterpret these narratives into forms that belong as much to the present as they do to the past.
B E L I E F
At Kathakaar, we believe that form follows people. Every object begins with heritage, shaped by craft, and brought to life through the stories, traditions, and hands of the communities that create it. We see Indian craft as a living expression of culture, not merely a technique. Our designs are rooted in real human stories and socio-cultural narratives, translating lived experiences, collective memories, traditions, and everyday rituals into contemporary objects. We look beyond aesthetics to understand the people, places, and histories that shape our culture, creating objects that are about people, for people, and by people.
CRAFTMANSHIP
Rooted in traditional handcrafting techniques, each object is meticulously created by skilled Indian artisans.
HERITAGE
Drawing inspiration from rich cultural narratives and timeless design traditions passed down through generations.
SUSTAINABILITY
Sourced responsibly from solid teak and brass, ensuring longevity, beauty, and environmental harmony.
STORYTELLING
Designing forms that spark conversation, evoke emotion, and connect everyday spaces to living human stories.
O R I G I N
Kathakaar began with three partners, a modest office in Gurgaon, and a shared belief that design should always begin with people, and the stories of their culture. Still in college, they set out with a quiet ambition to reintroduce a people-first philosophy to India's furniture and architecture industry, where every space and every object carries meaning beyond its function, with empathy as core expression.
E T H O S
Deeply inspired by the works and philosophies of B.V. Doshi and Charles Correa, they found themselves drawn to narrative-led design. Long before Kathakaar begin, storytelling had become the lens through which they approached every project. It wasn't just a design process; it was a way of understanding people, culture, and the lives that unfold around the spaces and objects we create.
